People told me I’m crazy because I hadn’t been to Pulcinella in Kensington, and now I could say that I agree. Being only one of 1100 Italian restaurants outside of Italy certified under Ospitalità Italiana, they know how to make a truly authentic Italian style pizza.
We began our meal with an order for arancini; saffron infused rice balls stuffed with mozzarella and topped with tomato sauce. These were quite large, in fact probably the size of a tennis ball, and were flavourful and cheesy. For our main, we of course had to try out some of their pizzas. We went for two different ones to try to get a good sampler of the menu. We had the capriccio which had a nice tomato base and was topped with artichokes, black olives, mushrooms, prosciutto cotto, parmigiano, and basil. It was a great selection for a meat pizza but had a good selection of veggies with it as well. Plus, the olives were delicious! Our second pizza was the four cheese, or quattro formaggi, which included mozzarella, gorgonzola, parmigiano, emmental, and basil. This one was incredible and I would definitely recommend this one to order.
If you’re on the hunt for authentic Italian pizza in Calgary, be sure to try out Pulcinella.
