The Alberta Teaching Quality Standard states that:
Teachers appreciate individual differences and believe all students can learn, albeit at different rates and in different ways. They recognize students’ different learning styles and the different ways they learn, and accommodate these differences in individuals and groups of students including students with special learning needs.
Every individual is able to learn concepts and new things, but the way in which they learn is always different. Some students need visual clues, others think more logically. Some students need technology and specific tools to help them overcome challenges, and some need additional support to help them through language barriers. As a teacher, I feel it is my responsibility to know my students, their challenges, and the way they learn, and provide them with the instruction necessary to learn the best way they can. This requires me to continue to learn new ways of teaching and strategies in order to accommodate and help my students the best way that I can. I continue to strive towards expanding my knowledge and stepping outside of my comfort zone so my students can succeed.
