If this picture isn’t enough to entice you to enter Zell’s Café then the food should!
This adorable place is located just off of Morrison Street SE in Portland, and has been around for years. The family style vibe permeates throughout and they serve a classic breakfast and lunch.
Once we were seated, we were given complimentary scones and jam, as we studied the menu and decided what to order. Our server recommended both the German pancakes and the eggs benny, so it only seemed right to order both. I love a good eggs benny, and I definitely loved this one. It looks simple on the outside, but this was probably the best hollandaise sauce I’ve ever had. It was so creamy and buttery. The apple German pancake was a lovely sweet option. The apples were caramelized with cinnamon sugar and then baked with the batter on top. This was a dish I would definitely order again!
A classic breakfast with simple recipes would keep me coming back to Zell’s time and time again.
