Being as my mom was born in Ireland and I married an Irishman, it only seems obvious that I would also have a love for Guinness. Now just to be clear, Guinness in Canada is very different from Guinness in Ireland. Let’s just say it’s much better on the other side of the ocean. I think that’s mainly because very few places in Calgary pour a pint correctly. One of those few places is Oak Tree Tavern.
Located in Kensington, right on 10 Avenue, this place is an Irish staple in town. They have traditional Irish music sessions every Sunday at 4pm. If you’ve never been to one, it’s a must! A bunch of local musicians gather around and play classic Irish tunes together. It really is something to see. Oak Tree also make a mean curry fries, a necessity in Ireland. If you haven’t tried them, you should And of course, they pour a mean Guinness…every time! Have a try for yourself.
